The Graduate Fellowship is a one-year, non-renewable, postgraduate appointment open to recent graduates of the MA in Spanish. Fellows teach 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester, which allows them the opportunity to gain full-time teaching experience. Participants have the opportunity to take part fully in the department’s academic life, including faculty development programs, funding for regional conferences, and mentoring by senior colleagues. A senior faculty member meets with the fellows and mentors them as they determine their next career steps, whether they are pursuing a career inside or outside academia. Individual and group meetings focus on building the CV or resume, writing professional cover letters, preparing for job interviews, and designing course syllabi, among other topics. Fellows are encouraged to attend at least one professional conference and to take advantage of the many career workshops offered on the UNC Charlotte campus.
