It isn't easy to find free, quality international cinema these days unless you participate in the annual UNC Charlotte International Film Festival, running from March 15 - April 7, 2017!  For three weeks each Spring, international cinema comes to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's main campus and to the UNC Charlotte's Center City campus.  This year, the festival features 23 films, 30 screenings, and numerous special events including screenings with several film directors, in one case a Syrian documentary followed by a question and answer session with the directors via videoconference.

Under the leadership of French Professor Michèle Bissière, faculty in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies collaborate with student clubs and the Office of International Programs to obtain grants used to purchase the rights for screening these films.  The end result is an amazing opportunity to experience international cinema at no cost and with commentary from directors and film studies faculty.
