Japanese for Professions is a virtual seminar, which aims to address “Educating the Educators,” teaching cultural fluency and global competence to attain awareness of diversity of thought, and inclusiveness among students and faculty.

This event will take place on February 13, 2021 at 2:00pm-4:30pm EST (11:00am-1:30pm PST) via Zoom.

The deadline for registration is February 11, 2021.

The Japanese Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is proud to host this 2.5 hour webinar (conducted in Japanese) focused on Japanese for the Professions. This synchronous event will feature four prominent professors who have been engaged in the field of Japanese business, business Japanese and translation for numerous years. During the event, speakers will share the following:

  • Methodology for promoting diversity, global competency and cultural fluency in designing courses geared to Japanese for the professions
  • Current approaches in Japanese for the professions’ instruction at their respective institutin
  • Case studies for Japanese for the professions’ instruction

Webinar Goals

Through this virtual seminar, instructors of Japanese will be trained in Japanese for the professions to instruct students with the goal of bringing diversity through curriculum by helping students:

  1. Learn how to be culturally fluent.
  2. Apply their linguistic knowledge to professional, diverse settings.
  3. Gain employment in a diverse global environment using their Japanese language ability and cultural fluency acquired at each institution
