For three weeks UNC Charlotte will host the annual International Film Festival. The event is organized by Professor Michèle Bissière, Professor of French, in collaboration with other faculty from the Department of Languages and Culture Studies. This year's festival includes 23 films, 28 screenings and 7 special events. Funding for the event comes from numerous sources, including several grants from UNC Charlotte and funds from the Confucius Institute and the Alliance Française de Charlotte.
Of note this year, the Iranian Student Organization has planned a film and a very special event: the visit of Ahmad Kiarostami, son of Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami. In addition, Courtney Singleton of the College of Business has assisted with two screenings of I Am Not Your Negro, including one at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African- American Arts & Culture in uptown Charlotte.
